Frequently Asked Questions

AGE RESTRICTION & ID REQUIREMENTS

Q: Do you tattoo anyone under 18?

No. Texas law prohibits tattooing anyone under the age of 18 under any circumstances — this includes with parental or guardian consent. At Late Nite Tattoos, all clients must be at least 18 years old to receive a tattoo or body piercing. This is in compliance with Texas Health & Safety Code §146.012.

Q: What kind of ID do I need to bring?

You must present a valid, unexpired, government-issued photo ID before any service can be performed. Acceptable forms of ID include a state-issued driver’s license, state ID card, U.S. passport, or military ID. Expired IDs, school IDs, and digital IDs on your phone are not accepted. No exceptions — if you can’t provide valid ID, we cannot perform any services.

Q: Can a parent sign a consent form for someone under 18?

No. Under Texas law, parental consent does not override the age requirement. We do not tattoo or pierce anyone under the age of 18 regardless of whether a parent or guardian is present or provides written permission.

AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

Q: How do I take care of my new tattoo?

Proper aftercare is essential for a tattoo that heals well and looks great long-term. Here are the basics:

  • Leave the bandage on for the time your artist recommends (typically 2–4 hours, or longer if using a second-skin wrap like Saniderm).
  • Wash the tattoo gently with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Pat dry with a clean paper towel — do not rub.
  • Apply a thin layer of unscented moisturizer or the aftercare product recommended by your artist. Avoid over-moisturizing.
  • For the first 2–3 weeks: do not submerge the tattoo in water (no swimming pools, hot tubs, baths, or lakes). Quick showers are fine.
  • Do not pick, scratch, or peel any flaking skin. Let it shed naturally.
  • Avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds on the fresh tattoo. Once healed, always apply sunscreen over your tattoo when spending time outdoors to keep colors vibrant.
  • Avoid tight clothing that rubs against the tattooed area during healing.
  • If you notice signs of infection (excessive redness, swelling, warmth, pus, or fever), contact a healthcare professional immediately.

Your artist will go over aftercare instructions with you in person after your session. If you have any questions during the healing process, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at (832) 229-4054.

Q: How long does a tattoo take to heal?

Most tattoos take about 2–4 weeks for the surface to heal, though the deeper layers of skin can take up to 2–3 months to fully recover. Healing time varies depending on the size, location, and detail of the tattoo, as well as your individual body and how well you follow your aftercare routine. During the first week or two, some peeling and light flaking is completely normal — this is part of the process and not a sign of a problem.

Q: What should I do before my tattoo appointment?

To get the best results and have the most comfortable experience, we recommend the following: eat a full meal before your appointment (low blood sugar can cause dizziness), stay well hydrated, get a good night’s sleep, wear comfortable clothing that gives easy access to the area being tattooed, and avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications (like aspirin or ibuprofen) for at least 24 hours before your session. Show up on time and bring your valid photo ID.

Piercings

Q: What types of piercings do you offer?

Late Nite Tattoos offers a wide range of professional body piercings including ear piercings (lobe, helix, tragus, conch, daith, rook, industrial), nose piercings (nostril, septum), lip and oral piercings (labret, monroe, medusa), eyebrow piercings, navel (belly button) piercings, and more. If you’re interested in a specific piercing not listed here, give us a call or text at (832) 229-4054 to ask about availability.

Q: How much do piercings cost?

Piercing prices vary depending on the type of piercing and the jewelry selected. Contact us at (832) 229-4054 or stop by the studio for current pricing. The cost of your piercing typically includes the service and a starter piece of high-quality jewelry.

Q: Do you use piercing guns?

No. All piercings at Late Nite Tattoos are performed using sterile, single-use needles by our professional piercer. Needle piercings are safer, more precise, and cause less trauma to the tissue compared to piercing guns. We never use piercing guns.

Q: How do I take care of a new piercing?

Aftercare for piercings is just as important as it is for tattoos. General guidelines include: clean the piercing 2–3 times daily with a sterile saline solution (we recommend NeilMed Wound Wash or a similar product), avoid touching the piercing with unwashed hands, do not twist or rotate the jewelry during healing, avoid submerging the piercing in pools, hot tubs, or lakes until fully healed, and avoid sleeping directly on a new ear or facial piercing. Healing times vary by piercing type — earlobes may heal in 6–8 weeks, while cartilage piercings can take 6–12 months. Our piercer will provide detailed aftercare instructions specific to your piercing at the time of service.

Q: Do I need to be 18 to get a piercing?

Yes. Just like tattoos, all piercing services at Late Nite Tattoos require you to be at least 18 years of age with a valid government-issued photo ID. We do not pierce minors under any circumstances.

Q. How expensive are tattoos?
The cost of your tattoo will all depend on its size, location, amount of detail, and the time needed to complete it.

Sessions are priced according to your artist’s hourly rate, which can vary.

Q. how do i schedule an appointment?
Text or call us at 832.229.4054.

Visit our Contact Page for other ways to schedule.

Q. What can i do in preparation for my appointment?

Please do not drink alcohol or use any type of blood thinning OTC medication (such as Ibuprofen and Aspirin) within 24 hours of your appointment.

Please refrain from sun exposure/tanning beds the 2 weeks prior to (as well as the 2 weeks after) your appointment. Get a good rest the night before, eat a full meal, and drink lots of water before coming in. We also recommend that you wear loose, comfortable clothing that will limit obstruction to the area that we will be tattooing.

Q. Does it hurt?

Pain threshold varies by person. But typically yes, getting a tattoo does hurt. The pain is manageable but some areas are more sensitive than others.

Q. How long does it take to heal?

Tattoo heal times vary per person and per location, complexity of tattoo and amount of shading done. Ultimately you will know your tattoo is healed when it is no longer flaking and is smooth to the touch.
